Red
Carpet Service Award
Red Carpet Service Award
Red Carpet Award Winner
for November is Bonnie Bigolin, Print Link Ad Specialties for her
outstanding customer service.
Bonnie was nominated by
Cindy Johnson. Cindy had these
comments “ Bonnie, from Print Link
definitely deserves the Red Carpet award this month.
I was going to a conference in
Indiana
and
wanted to give away a Kindle. The
Kindle was late arriving at our office, but Bonnie spent her
afternoon and evening working to put the Mobilitat logo on the back of the
Kindle. Bonnie then
delivered the Kindle to my home at
9:00
at night. WOW.
Not too many people will give that kind of
service. To top it off ….
Everything looked great”! Bonnie receives a Red Carpet Pin, $25.00
Gift
Certificate as well as other advertising.
She will be entered in the Red Carpet Person of the Year
award contest to be presented in 2010.
If you know someone out
there that has rolled out the red carpet for you, give them some
well
deserved recognition and nominate them for next month’s award!
Nomination cards can be found at the
Chamber office and also at most of the businesses.
If you were the
nomination person of a Red Carpet winner please stop by the office we have
a gift
for you too. We appreciate you
taking the time and effort to make sure someone’s efforts are noticed.
Lunch
& Learn – Networking and more!!!
A
representative from the
Sweetwater
County
Memorial
Hospital
will be giving an
update about the Hospital Construction.
December’s Luncheon will be held at
China
Gardens
.
Mark
Atkinson from the SBDC gave a presentation at November’s Lunch and Learn
about Second Life,
which
is a three dimensional virtual world on the web,
that
allows for real life activities such as conducting business, training,
socializing, credit-based
courses, research, historical recreations and quite a lot more. Some
academics and web trend
experts believe that the entire world wide web will go 3-D within 5-10
years. Time will tell but the
indicators show this “may” be true. The
University
of
Wyoming
is currently developing Wyoming
Entrepreneur island in Second Life which showcases world-famous landmarks
from
Wyoming
.
The
purpose of the island is to have a virtual environment to counsel
Wyoming
entrepreneurs, teach
classes, offer significant events like the Native American Art show in
April 2010, and learning activities
that teach business basics.
Not
only will you get some great ideas for your business but bring your
business card to put in for
free advertising. Winners at the November Lunch were
Ann Owen, CDC, Reader Board; Jeff Wilson,
Desert View Eye Care, Newsletter Profile; Teresa Warren, The Window
and Door Store, Radio;
Mike Nelson, High Plains Physical Therapy, Radio; Stephen Pyles, Public
Information Coordinator for
the City Administration Office, WY Cowboy Tickets; Ricky Gardea, Wyo
Radio,
UPS
Store Gift
Certificate; 50/50 Raffle winner was Teresa Warren, The Window and Door
Store.
The
Lunch & Learn Networking program is held the third Wednesday of every
month at noon at
rotating Chamber member restaurants so mark your calendars ahead and watch
for location and
guest speaker.

44 Lessons-Celebrate
"To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life
taught me. It is the most-requested
column I've ever written. My odometer rolled over to 90 in August, so
here is the column once
more:" Written By Regina Brett, 90 years old, of The Plain Dealer,
Cleveland
,
Ohio
1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.
2. When in doubt, just take the
next small step.
3. Life is too short to waste time
hating anyone.
4. Your job won't take care of you
when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch.
5. Pay off your credit cards every
month.
6. You don't have to win every
argument. Agree to disagree.
7. Cry with someone. It's more
healing than crying alone.
8. It's OK to get angry with God.
He can take it.
9. Save for retirement starting
with your first paycheck.
10. When it comes to chocolate,
resistance is futile.
11. Make peace with your past so
it won't screw up the present.
12. It's OK to let your children
see you cry.
13. Don't compare your life to
others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
14. If a relationship has to be a
secret, you shouldn't be in it.
15. Everything can change in the
blink of an eye. But don't worry; God never blinks.
16. Take a deep breath. It calms
the mind.
17. Get rid of anything that isn't
useful, beautiful or joyful.
18. Whatever doesn't kill you
really does make you stronger.
19. It's never too late to have a
happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else.
20. When it comes to
going after what you love in life, don't take
no for an answer.
21. Burn the candles, use the nice
sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special
occasion. Today is special.
22. Over prepare, then go with the
flow.
23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait
for old age to wear purple.
24. No one is in charge of your
happiness but you.
25. Frame every so-called disaster
with these words ''In five years, will this matter?".
26. Always choose life.
27. Forgive everyone everything.
28. What other people think of you
is none of your business.
29. Time heals almost everything.
Give time, time.
30. However good or bad a
situation is, it will change.
31. Don't take yourself so
seriously. No one else does.
32. Believe in miracles.
33. God loves you because of who
God is, not because of anything you did or didn't do.
34. Don't audit life. Show up and
make the most of it now.
35. Growing old beats the
alternative -- dying young.
36. Your children get only one
childhood.
37. All that truly matters in the
end is that you loved.
38. Get outside every day.
Miracles are waiting everywhere.
39. If we all threw our problems
in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back.
40. Envy is a waste of time. You
already have all you need.
41. The best is yet to come.
42. No matter how you feel, get
up, dress up and show up.
43. Yield.
44. Life isn't tied with a bow,
but it's still a gift.
Don’t
tell me you got nothin’ to do!

Top Ten Shopping Ideas and More! –
Chamber Promotes Shop Local!
The arrival of really cold weather and
snow put folks into the Christmas mind set. Now that everyone has
shopping on their minds I would like to encourage all of you to think
and shop local. I know you may have
talked yourself into thinking we don’t have many shopping options in
Green River, but I am going to enlighten
you! We have some wonderful places to find just the right gift for all
those special people on your list.
The Chamber’s Membership Committee
asked in last month’s newsletter for local shopping ideas.
Shoppers
and merchants sent us a list of what is available and you will be
pleasantly surprised with the variety. Here
are the results from the top choice to the number 10. You may have been
scratching your head this year,
wondering what exactly you were going to give your Dad, who just goes
out and gets whatever he has the
notion for!
Mansface Motors, 520
Wilkes Drive, Suite 3, 875-4481. Here is a wonderful gift idea to
you travel about
town in style and save you on fuel expenses! Jose and Marilyn Rendon’s
newest venture in business brings
American made scooters and mopeds to Green River. Yes you could bundle
up and use them now, but they are
great to get around in the spring, summer and fall. Very stylish and
"Green".
Busy Bee Bath Essentials,
139 W. 2nd S., 875-4220. What a great new little shop! Come
and check their new
product line—Wyoming Quilting Company! Beautiful
handcrafted quilts for little ones. Blankets, slippers
and neck warmers with lavender, eucalyptus or chocolate fragrance
in them, just pop them in the microwave
and scent surrounds you. Hand made lotion, soaps, room distillers and
more, made to order or choose from the
many that are on the shelves
Hampton Inn & Suites, 1055
Wild Horse Canyon Road, Green River – 875-5300. A great "Stay-Cation"
idea—the "Dive In Movie Package" is a great gift idea for
families that would love a getaway but don’t want
to go very far away! For just $119.00 you get a nights’ stay in the
beautiful new Hampton Inn & Suites located
in Green River, a free movie rental, a free one topping pizza & 2
liter of soda delivered to your room, use of
the indoor heated pool and free breakfast! WOW wouldn’t the family
love that!
Print Link Ad-Specialties, 520
Wilkes Drive, Suite 1, 875-3063. Wyoming products of all kinds and
the
"Fan-Mats" for cars and trucks feature the Wyoming bucking
horse logo. They also carry Wyoming football &
basketball throw mats for the floor. Another great stocking
stuffer item is the "Bottle Popper", which quickly
removes bottle caps from adult beverages.
Book & Bean, located
in the Merc, 875-5445, WOW great things come in small packages and Misti
Karician-Zimmerman’s shop is a perfect example of that. She has signed
Sweetwater County books as well as
a great selection of other books on our area. Check out her many
ornaments that are sprinkled around the shop.
Teas and tea accessories are the newest fad…and Misti has the latest
choice in both. She also has a great
selection of gently used books too. Misti has many gift basket goodies
like little novelty books, coffees, teas,
biscotti, lotions and more.
R & B Meats, 515
E. 2nd N., 875-2556. Wanting to send a Wyoming made gift to
your friends and family out
of town. Here is a gift idea with true Wyoming flair. Buffalo sausage
gift packages come with several different
flavors in a hand-crafted crate, ready to be slid into a box and mailed.
No refrigeration needed until the sealed
tubes are opened make them perfect to send or put under the tree. Randy
& Betty Garver put their own special
blend of seasonings in each one…a true "Wyoming Made"
product!
White Mountain Lumber, 270
E. Flaming Gorge Way, 875-3601. This is a great place to get something
for
hat guy on your list! Power tools and more just the thing for those
"Manly Men"!
Warehouse Home Furnishings,
440 Uinta Drive, 875-3984. Don & Lea have not only the top of
line
"Tempur-Pedic" mattress, but also other gift ideas such as
dishes, unique lamps, and of course all kinds of
quality furniture.
Treasures, 823
Uinta Drive, Looking for something different and within your budget. You
will be pleasantly
surprised by the great selection of nearly new items. There is a
fabulous array of eclectic gift ideas and you
will be environmentally friendly and recycling.
Krazy Moose, 211 E. Flaming Gorge Way,
875-5124. Yes you can take folks out for a
great meal during the
holiday’s but this gift recommendation is their "Moose
Balls". No, they are not anything like "Rocky Mountain
Oysters". These are a chocoholic dream—a cross between a truffle
and a bonbon. These are a perfect mouthful
of sweetness and chocolate. The folks at the Krazy Moose would be happy
to sell you these in multiples to
give as gifts.

Chamber Business
Profile--supporting local business!

Desert View Eye Care
Desert View Eye Care celebrated its 3rd
anniversary this past summer thanks to the great
work and customer service performed by its staff members Melissa, Julie,
and Stephanie.
They continue to improve the technology offered in their state of
the art eye exam in order to
provide the very best eye care to the residents of Green River,
Rock Springs
and the surrounding
area. This year Dr. Wilson
added the Optomap Retinal Exam to the facility.
A red and green laser
takes a quick, painless 200 degree image of the inside of the eye- giving
an un-paralleled view of the
retina. Different eye disease
can more easily be detected such as diabetes, retinal detachments,
hypertension, glaucoma and macular degeneration.
They also added the Heidelberg Retinal
Tomographer (HRT) in order to detect and track glaucoma.
This instrument scans the optic nerve to
detect change due to glaucoma. Of
course they still utilize electronic medical records,
auto-refractokeratometer, visual field scanner, corneal topographer and a
high resolution digital
retinal camera.
Desert View Eye Care prides itself in its quality,
not only of the exam techniques and technology,
but also the products used to correct vision problems.
They carry a wide selection of designer
frames with the latest styles and the best lenses so that you will see and
look your best. Dr.
Wilson
also is using the latest in contact lenses with silicone hydrogel lenses
that maximize oxygen flow to
the eye, keeping the eye healthy even through long hours of contact lens
wear. Of course none of
this would be possible without the support of their patients and they want
to thank their patients for
their trust and loyalty. Dr.
Wilson plans to stay in
Green River
his entire career and continue to offer
the latest advances in vision care and eye injury and disease treatment.
They are open Monday
through Friday and welcome new patients and emergency medical visits.
If it has to do with the
eye, see them first! Please
visit www.desertvieweyecare.com
, give the office a call at 875-3399
or just stop by and see their modern, state of the art facility at
520 Wilkes Dr. Suite 12
in
Green
River
. Desert View Eye Care, Serving
All Your Family’s Eye Care Needs!
Note: Dr. Wilson will soon be adding a lens edging
system to the practice which will allow for
same or next day service for most prescription glasses!
Also be sure to take advantage of their year end
sale: 50% off a second pair of glasses.
See office for details.

members and all our volunteers,
we extend a great big wonderful thank you!
Last Saturday evening, over $323,000 was raised
for our friends and neighbors who are undergoing cancer treatments outside
of our county. It is
truly unbelievable to see the incredible generosity of everyone from
individuals to businesses and industry.
A special thanks to our chefs and Nicholas Foods.
For the last ten years, they have donated and
prepared such a delicious gourmet dinner!
And Al Harris, you are the best emcee that anyone could
hope for. Your skills, your
sense of humor and love for your family and friends help to make the
annual
fundraiser a memorable, successful and downright fun event!
We will never forget our dignitaries and
volunteers selling bananas during our raffle, either.
Who would have guessed that
Sweetwater
County
has so many fruit lovers?
To everyone who helped and participated in this
year’s event, your support and generosity of spirit
will enable Cowboys Against Cancer to help even more throughout this next
year – Thank you!
Signed by the Cowboys Against Cancer board members and
volunteers

and ˝ year old named Raylie Watson. She was diagnosed with
cancer at the age of seven months but is now cancer-free. She was on
stage with
other survivors to be honored during the event.
Over 860 people attended
the
CAC
fundraising event last Saturday, Nov. 7 at the Events
Complex.
That is a record. Equally wonderful was the record amount of funds
raised, $323,000! Sponsors,
individuals, businesses and various industries all helped to make that
happen. It’s truly amazing
that our small communities can come together to make this happen!
Networking
at
Noon
– New Spin on Old Idea!
Wells Fargo hosted the first “Networking at
Noon
”, December 19th. This is
another
opportunity the Chamber is offering the membership to connect with other
members
in the business community.
New
idea in that, the Chamber has had the Business After Hours, BAH, but this
give
folks an chance during the day to stop by and visit with others. We know
how hard it is
sometimes to find enough time in the day, especially when we are all
busy either
running to another meeting or just trying to get home and have supper at a
decent time.
December
brings the BAH to you with the Child Development Center hosting this
networking opportunity to the Chamber Membership on December 16th,
5:30 at their
Green River location on Monroe Avenue, in Expedition Academy.

What
Does the Chamber Do? Glad you asked!
The Chamber is your
business and community advocate. We represent over 270 members
who are a reflection of our community. Businesses of all sizes and
industries, with diverse
viewpoints and political positions make up the “Voice” of the
Chamber’s membership. The
Chamber works very hard to make sure that the membership’s “Voice”
is heard. We work to
improve the economy and quality of life for the City of
Green River
in many ways.
We are the front door
to the community and serve as the information center of the town.
Our staff answers thousands of questions about our community—questions
regarding tourism,
prospective relocation and new businesses. We are usually the first
contact that an individual
will make with the community. The
office has had over 5,800 people through the door this year.
New residents come to us for housing information, utility information,
phone books, maps,
recreation information and more. Our office is maintained with a full time
staff devoted to the
commercial, civic and retail development of
Green River
. We also have a great website that not
only promotes the community but also has a current calendar of events and
activities, and links
to many other useful sites with over 20,000 hits on the web site word
about our community is
getting out.
The staff works closely with other agencies in our county and has many
great working partnerships.
Those “Partners in Progress” so to speak, include the City of Green
River, Sweetwater County
Travel and Tourism Board, Sweetwater County Events Complex, Fair Board,
Rock Springs
Chamber of Commerce
, SWEDA, Green River Main Street, Green
River Community Chest,
Wyoming Business Council,
BLM
, Ashley National Forest, School District #2, Western
Wyoming Community College, Green River Art Council,
Sweetwater County Museum
. We
also partner with other statewide agencies such as the Wyoming Chamber of
Commerce
Executives, Wyoming Travel Industry Coalition, Wyoming Travel &
Tourism, Wyoming
Department of Workforce Services and the Wyoming Game & Fish.
The Chambers various
committees work on numerous issues to improve the quality of life in
our community by supporting local businesses, City Beautification, Arts
and Culture,
Education, Government Gffairs, Sweetwater County Leadership, tourism and
attractions.
Through work started in those committees several projects have moved
forward such as the
Green River
Bike
Park
, the
Visitors
Center
and
Main Street
.
The Chamber
coordinates, facilitates, and partners with several events throughout the
year.
Events such as Flaming Gorge Days, Overland Stage Stampede, Biking on the
Green, Art on
the Green, The
River Festival
, Wyoming’s Big Show, Santa’s Arrival,
the Lighted Kiddie Parade,
Adopt a Tree, and the newly added the Burbot Bash. We are also the ticket
outlet for the
community selling tickets to all the major events like, Community Concert
Association,
Overland Stage Stampede, Red Desert Roundup, Cowboy’s Against Cancer,
just to name a few.
Events that are providing not only improved quality of life for our
locals; but also bringing
tourism dollars into the community.
The Chamber also
provides the members with networking opportunities. Those events give
the members increased name recognition, and a chance to connect with
other professionals.
Events such as the monthly Lunch & Learn, Business After Hours,
Networking at
Noon
, Open
Houses, Ribbon Cuttings, Committee Meetings and the annual combined
membership meeting
with SWEDA and the Rock Springs Chamber, which will be held as a luncheon
in 2010, the
LEAD in Business Luncheon. L.E.A.D is an acronym for Linking Excellence
Achievement and
Distinction. This event, for those of you with a long memory, was formerly
known as the Gala,
is moving into a new phase. The event will be held on a weekday,
April 8, 2010
and during lunch
11:30 am to 1:30 pm
. The three partners in the event,
SWEDA, Rock Springs Chamber and
Green River Chamber are also going to bring a guest speaker in to address
timely business
issues.
The Chamber is your
business and community advocate and continues to strive to serve
Green River
. We welcome
new members and volunteers and have a place for anyone to
become involved. Just give us a call!
