Red Carpet Service Award

Red Carpet Award Winner for September is Mike Frink, Sweetwater Trophies for her outstanding customer service.

Mike Frink was nominated by Teresa Warren.  Teresa had these comments, “I have always found Mike to be very helpful but in the last two weeks he has taken care of the UPS return package for me by dealing with the UPS people and making everything right even though he was very busy.  He also took two prints that needed to be mounted and one framed on a last minute notice and had them done within the day.  He is always friendly, helpful and every time he is a joy to work with”.  Mike receives a Red Carpet Pin, $25.00 Gift Certificate as well as other advertising.  She will be entered in the Red Carpet Person of the Year award contest to be presented at the Recognition Banquet in 2009.

If you know someone out there that has rolled out the red carpet for you, give them some well deserved recognition and nominate them for next month’s award!  Nomination cards can be found at the Chamber office and also at most of the businesses.

If you were the nomination person of a Red Carpet winner please stop by the office we have a gift for you too.  We appreciate you taking the time and effort to make sure someone’s efforts are noticed.

Bricks Still Available!!

The Chamber is still selling bricks to help with costs for the Visitor’s Center. The Visitor’s Center is a partnership between the City of Green River and the Chamber. The building should go out to bid soon, and the goal is to break ground in 2009. The City has brought infrastructure to the location and the Chamber has had water and sewer pulled into the temporary office modular. Yes, we now have running water and a working toilet!!!

Bricks will be available for sale until April of 2009, so don’t miss your chance to be listed as one of the partners to bring the Visitor’s Center to fruition. The Visitor’s Center will be located on the back side of the parking lot, adjacent to the Moran Overlook Park , overlooking the Green River , Palisades and Tollgate—the perfect position to attract tourists and serve the community. We have already had a huge increase in the number of visitors stopping by the office.

The bricks will be a lasting “Legacy”—showing the community and world your dedication and willingness to help build an enduring impression for years to come. The “Great Wall of Fame” inside the building will be comprised of the “Premier Legacy Logo” bricks—your name or your company’s name will be on view to over 100 people a day.

For those of you that want to help out but at a smaller level, there are several options to choose from, the Visitor’s Center “Walk and Wall of Fame” outside. The bricks will be used to build a walking path and wall around the building.

Thanks to the following folks that made donations for bricks to date:

Planning for an Emergency

By Candy Lane, WSBDC special projects coordinator, with contributions from Mark Lupo, Georgia SBDC business consulants.

"With all the storms hitting various parts of the country, an emergency plan is probably a good idea for any business. What should I consider and how do I start?" Mike Casper.

This is the first in a three-part series, "Emergency Preparedness."

Explosion, fire, flood, winter storms, tornados, terrorist incidents--each of these events has the potential to have a devastating effects on lives and the continuity of business. Preparation will not eliminate the stress of disruption or the potential for injury or death; however, a plan may help mitigate the effects.

An emergency plan will guide the business owner and staff members to best confront an unexpected threat to the business and customers. An individual plan should incorporate ways to address immediate threat(s) and how to continue doing business without interruption.

The goal should be to minimize injury or death to the owner, staff and customers. The type of emergency will dictate whether to evacuate a building (in case of fire, bomb threat or a hostile, aggressive person entering the business) or whether to take shelter (incase of severe weather, certain terrorist threats, etc.).

in order minimize injury, the initial goal should be to remove yourself and others in harm's way to a safe location. Designate a rally point. At the meeting place, roll call should be taken to verify those present and any person(s) who may be unaccounted for. Individuals who may conducting business away for the office, such as making sales calls or at meetings outside the office, should be alerted to the incident, their safety and whereabouts confirmed and pending actions communicated.

Scenario planning is a good way to start emergency preparations. Three of four scenarios may emerge as the most likely events that could be faced. Consider all parties potentially at risk, how each would respond and the "walk-through" possible scenarios in detail. Put a plan on paper, make it available to each person on the team and most importantly--practice the plan

Once an immediate threat has passed, a plan to assist with recovery should be implemented. The goal for continuity planning is to minimize downtime in the event of a natural or human-cased disaster. Recovery strategy should include retrieval of crucial information.
