Annual
River
Festival
The
River Festival
will be held August 22, 23,
2008.The Festival will begin on Friday afternoon with signups and orientation at
4 p.m.
! At about
5:30 p.m.
we will begin serving a Cajun
Shrimp Boil. This
will be open to the public; tickets will be sold in advance with just 750 meals
available. Be sure to purchase your ticket early. Tickets will be available the
end of July.
Prices are $15.00 for adults, Children 12 & under and seniors $ 8 per plate.
Cajun spicy style shrimp boiled with sausage, potatoes and corn! Free kids games will be
available from
5-7 p.m.
and the Kiwanis Club will be
hosting their Duck Race.
The River
of
Fire
will take place at dark with boaters floating down the river
with glow sticks if you have a raft, canoe or boat joint in the fun. The route
will take place down the north channel. Lighted cauldrons will be placed just
along the river too. Entertainment for that evening will be the"Fireants"from
Dubois,
Wyoming, featuring
Caribbean
Cajun music. The Fireants will
perform from
5:30
to 10:30 pm
outside on Expedition
Island
.
Vendors will be on hand with some great items for sale. Mary Mint jewelry will
once again be back,www.marymint.com.
Mary has been at the Festival four years in a row with a fabulous selection of
fine jewelry! The Bread Lady will also be back and we will be updating the site
with vendors as they sign up!

Annual marathon race, the Run
With the Horses
Marathon
will begin at
6:30 a.m.
, with a shuttle picking
participants up at Expedition
Island, at
5 a.m.
Saturday August 23rd.
The
Marathon
route is across the Wild Horse
Loop
on
White Mountain
, hence the name. The runners
will travel across a self guided
Loop
Tour that 9 times out of 10 has wild horses frolicking along side
the road. The race starts out at about 7,500 feet and ends in Green River
at about 6,200 feet. The
majority of the road is a County maintained dirt road and the decline is not
bad. Aid Stations with snack, water and energy drinks will be placed every two miles.
Porta Potties will be placed throughout the course. Entry fee of $75 includes
the Cajun Shrimp Boil Friday night or Barbeque Dinner Saturday
night, band, a t-shirt and medallion for the finishing racers.

Again this year is the 3rd
Annual Pilot Butte
Endurance Horse Race &
Lucky 13 Poker Run. Both will
begin at the mouth of 1st
Springs
Canyon, near
the new motel. The Endurance Horse Race participants will travel 12.5 miles on the
Pilot Butte Wild Horse Loop
Tour road. They will stop for a
vet check, provided by Mountainaire Animal Clinic, and then travel back to the
beginning point. The 25 mile course across
White Mountain
provides great views and lots of
wildlife! There will be added cash of $500.00, with 1st, 2nd
& 3rd splitting the pot plus other prizes too. We will also have
prizes and awards for the best conditioned horse of the first horse to finish.
The Lucky 13 Poker Run also begins at the mouth of 1st Springs
Canyon; riders will travel 6.5 miles up
the same route, receiving a total of 7cards at the stops. Riders will have the
opportunity to buy an extra card at the final stop for $5.00. Best 5 Card Stud
Poker hands will win – 1st, 2nd & 3rd.
Cash and prizes will be awarded.
Endurance Race is on Saturday August 23rd, beginning at 7:30 am

$25.00 for ride and Cajun Shrimp Boil, (Friday August 22n), or
$25.00 for ride and Barbeque Dinner, (Saturday August 23rd). $15.00 for

Festival Brew Fest from
11a.m.
to 5 p.m.
There will be several brewers
available for you to sample their beer, and for you to vote on your favorite.
Snake River Brewery, Jackson Hole; Bottoms
Up Brewery, Pinedale; Grand Teton Brewery, Driggs, ID and More! Participants will be charged a $20 entry fee. This fee would allow you to
sample an unlimited amount of beer. Judges will award 1st, 2nd,
3rd place winners along with the People’s Choice Award.
The band as yet to be booked, but they will play from 11 am to 3 pm.
Following the band we will have Story
Tales.
A Dog Fetching
Contest is an event that we
know will involve the home crowd too. Dogs will be timed on fetching a stick out
of the river and back to their owners. We are also including a land event for
those water phobic dogs.

The committee is working on have a distance jump as well.
Green Garboon
races are for those adventurous river runners! Built your own floating vessel
and race it down the river. The race will run from the
Railroad
Bridge
to the
Trona
Bridge
. Categories are: Fastest,
Prettiest, Ugliest and Able to Hold the Most People. Race will start at
12:30 p.m.
Dog Show is
being put on by Judy Jarnigan and she will show you how to get your dog to
traverse an obstacle course. There will also be prized given for the Prettiest,
Homeliest, Biggest, Smallest and Best Behaved Dogs. Dog Show starts at
2 p.m.
Even if your dog doesn’t know how to run an obstacle course Judy will
show you how to get started!
A
Barbeque Dinner held in conjunction
with the Awards presentation. Dinner price will be announced soon.
There will be a food vendor on
hand during the day.
