The Finish Line!

One of the Winners
2nd
Annual run with the Horses
The 2nd
Annual Run with Horses Marathon was a great success again this year.
Race Coordinator Ellen O’Neall did a great job along with help from
Aldena Cherva, Terry and John Pawleska and Mary Shaw.
Saturday August 27, 2005
seventy-six runners gathered on top of
White Mountain
. Fifty-seven ran the marathon 26.2
miles. Ten ran as teams doing a relay. Nine ran the half–marathon 13.1
miles. All runners who registered ran and finished the race. The runners
came from twenty different states. Three
runners were from other countries, two from
Canada
and one from
Germany
. One couple had just finished their 36th
Marathon
this year and were going for 52nd by the end of the year.
The marathon winner
Sascha Kashewsky, from
Berlin
,
Germany
set a new course record of three hours and eleven minutes.
Second place was Raymond Hefner, of
Onalaska
,
Wisconsin
, with a time of three hours twenty- two
minutes. Third place, Jim Mayo,
Coppell
,
Texas
, had a time of three hours and twenty-
nine minutes. Women runners were Tonya Kilgore,
Sugar Hill
,

, three
hours and fifty- nine minutes. Nicole Mills,
Naperville
,
Illinois
, four hours and twenty- five minutes,

fifty- nine minutes.

half-marathon with a time of one hour and thirty-eight minutes. Second
runner was Grant Frost, also from
Green River
,
Wyoming
, with one hour forty- four minutes.
Third runner was Melanie Lucent from
Bozemen
,
Montana
with one hour and fifty- three minutes.
Relay runners were all local with an all male team winning.
Darrin Goyn, Robert Doak, Killian Muli and Dennis Pineda, of
Green River
with a team time of three hours and
thirty- five minutes.
The oldest runner Raymond Scharenbrock, seventy –two, from
South Milwaukee
,
Wisconsin
was awarded a frame containing three
pictures of horses and pilot butte. The youngest runner was half of a
relay team running 13.1 miles. Twenty four year old Sarah Stanley of
Green River
,
Wyoming
with a team time of four hours is from
Green River
. She was given a trophy made of Trona.
The
racers from out of town complimented the community and committee for
having a great venue. Many of them will be back next year with friends!
Progress
might have been all right once, but it’s gone on too long.
